Behind the Scenes of Magician in the Kitchen: How a Magician Brought Magic to the Culinary World
What happens when a magician who loves to cook but has no formal training decides to step into the kitchen with professional chefs? You get something truly one-of-a-kind: Magician in the Kitchen.
As the creator and host of this brand-new YouTube pilot, I wanted to pull back the curtain and share how the show came to life, the creative journey behind it, and the incredible people who helped bring it from idea to reality.
The Spark of an Idea
I’ve been a magician for over two decades, performing around the world, appearing on shows like Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and creating original magic for live audiences. Offstage, though, one of my biggest passions has always been cooking.
Here’s the catch: I’m not a trained chef. I just love the process — the chopping, the tasting, the experimenting, the joy of sharing food with friends and family. One day it hit me: what if I combined my two passions into a show? What if a magician who isn’t a professional chef could step into the kitchen with culinary experts, learn their signature dishes, and along the way, perform sleight-of-hand magic with the very ingredients we’re using?
That was the seed that grew into Magician in the Kitchen.
Partnering with a Legend: Bob Jaffe
Turning an idea into a television-quality show is no small feat. That’s why I was thrilled to collaborate with Bob Jaffe, a legendary producer who has extensive experience bringing magic to television audiences.
If you were a fan of magic in the 1990s, you’ll remember The World’s Greatest Magic specials — all five of them aired on primetime network TV and helped launch a new era of televised magic. Bob Jaffe produced those shows, and his expertise and vision were invaluable in shaping Magician in the Kitchen.
Working with Bob was like taking a masterclass in how to bring wonder to the screen. His understanding of pacing, storytelling, and how to let magic shine on camera elevated the entire project.
The Format: Cooking Meets Magic
Each episode of Magician in the Kitchen follows a simple but exciting format:
A professional chef teaches me how to prepare one of their favorite dishes.
As I learn (and often stumble a bit!), I perform magic tricks using the tools and ingredients around us. Garlic cloves, frying pans, wooden spoons — everything in the kitchen is fair game for a little sleight-of-hand surprise.
By the end, viewers not only learn a delicious recipe but also get a dose of wonder and entertainment.
It’s not about me showing off perfect knife skills — it’s about discovery, laughter, and seeing how magic can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Why This Show Matters
At its heart, Magician in the Kitchen is about connection. Food brings people together. Magic does the same. Together, they create a shared experience that is joyful, surprising, and memorable.
My hope is that viewers will walk away smiling, maybe hungry, and definitely inspired to see the “magic” in their own kitchens and lives.
